Firetrucks & Red Sox (week 3)

I can’t believe what a week this has been.

Last Thursday was “Chief’s night” aka training night at the fire station. We were scheduled to practice drafting water from the dump by the railroad tracks on the hill above Station 11.

When I got to the station our tones went off that we had a transformer fire.

So I get on my turn out gear and hop, actually struggle to get into to back of the fire engine and race to the scene. My adrenaline goes into overdrive getting mentally ready for the task at hand.

While in the back of the truck I record a quick Marco Polo to my tribe, The Royal πŸ‘‘ Ones. All of a sudden I start seeing red circles everywhere. The flashing fire truck lights, the knobs controlling the 🚨 sirens, the red ⭕️ in a business sign. Now I’m laughing and my two “brothers” ask, “are you okay”? I screamed with enthusiasm “I’m wicked awesome.”

We finally get to the scene and see the transformer arching but there was no actual fire and the power lines were not on the road. We called Ohio Edison and headed back to the station for training.

It’s now really dark outside so the Asst. Chief says instead of drafting water we’re going to use our extraction tools to cut up some cars. Please no I thought the cutter weighs 60 lbs. & I’m 62. I know my shoulder is going to need a cortisone shot. Ouch!

I grab the axe and smashed the windshield, then sliced the seatbelts with my tool, & it was my turn to use the cutter and guess what, the battery light had a red circle ⭕️ on it. We sliced and diced two automobiles, put our equipment away and leave for the night. It’s now 10:00 pm.

Finally I’m home having an apple and some nuts & start watching my beloved team The Boston Red Sox when all of a sudden I notice the red ⭕️ which is the O in Sox. They won of course.

I finally wind down and pick up to read aloud my “OG” book and notice the word World and the O is another red circle ⭕️.

I finish my read, Breathe deep and relax for ten minutes and then I go to sleep around midnight.

All of a sudden it’s 2:10 am Friday morning and my fire radio goes off and there’s a structure fire across the lake where I live.

Now that story I’ll have to share next week. Stay tuned.

But, those little exercises on those index cards hunted you down, to make sure that were in touch with task that you promised to do. This is mind-blowing! And, all of us on this journey, are and will be experiencing many great things. enjoy the ride. And be safe!
